How to Maintain and Clean a Stretch Ceiling Without Damaging the Surface

Unlike painted drywall surfaces that carry static electrical charges and accumulate greasy dust and cobwebs, architectural stretch ceiling membranes are treated with an anti-static formulation during calendering. As a result, dust particles do not cling to the surface. In typical air-conditioned residential spaces, a stretch ceiling can go 3 to 5 years without requiring any physical cleaning beyond an occasional light dusting with a soft duster.

When routine cleaning is desired—such as in kitchens or dining rooms where cooking oils or steam are present—follow this simple procedure: dampen a clean, soft microfiber cloth with warm water (30°C–40°C) containing a drop of mild dish soap or isopropyl alcohol-based glass cleaner. Gently wipe the membrane using broad, circular strokes without pressing heavily against the ceiling plane. Follow immediately with a dry microfiber cloth to prevent water spots on glossy surfaces.

To preserve the elasticity and surface sheen of your stretch ceiling, avoid the following hazards: never use abrasive scouring powders, hard-bristled brushes, or steel wool pads that scratch the polymer. Avoid aggressive solvents like acetone, paint thinners, turpentine, or undiluted chlorine bleach. Keep sharp tools, knives, and tall pointed objects away from the ceiling plane during furniture moving.
